Queens native, David Banker is a trombonist and composer whose work has been heard throughout the New York City area.  David’s passion for developing new work drew him towards education, and by the age of 23, in addition to continuing to perform, he became a part-time substitute teacher for Department of Education of New York City.  David earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam College, where he studied with Dr. Mark Hartman, Bret Zvacek, and Dr. Christopher Creviston. Receiving a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from New York University, David had the opportunity to study with leading artists such as Grammy nominated Alan Ferber, Dave Pietro, Steffon Harris, and Elliot Mason. During his time at NYU, he has been fortunate enough to have played and recorded with Don Friedman, Rich Perry, Lenny Pickett, Mike Rodriguez, and Alex Sipiagin, to name a few.  David also performs regularly with the Michael Sarian Big Band, Moose, The New Tarot, and is the leader of The International Ensemble.  He also works as a Brass Specialist at Battalion Studios, an educator at The Brooklyn Home of Music, and a Librarian at Columbia University.  His debut album “Downtown Bound” was released April 30th, 2016.
