NY based vocalist/composer. Hiromi Suda group performs Brazilian music such as Samba, Bossa Nova and MPB and her original compositions. They performed at Blue note NY, Zinc bar, Cornelia street cafe, nuble, shape shifter, Lincoln center in Washington DC and so on. They also toured in Japan and featured on the radio shows, TV and the magazines.

Her 3rd album “Nagi” co-produced by the flutist, Anne Drummond released in July 2016 in Japan from Inpartmaint Inc. and worldwide release in spring 2017 from blujazz.

The recording is a collection of Brazilian song by notable Brazilian composer such as Tom Jobim, Sérgio Mendes and Caetano Veloso and her original songs.

From this album, her original song “Nagi” was selected as the finalist of the Annual 21st USA Songwriting Competitions 2016 and “Hajimari” was selected as the finalist of the 12th Annual International Acoustic Music Awards.

The band members are Romero Lubambo(Guitar), Anne Drummond(Flute), Julian Shore(Piano), Keita Ogawa (Percussions/Drums),Haggai Cohen-Milo(Bass).

Her second album, “Sou” is Produced by Brazilian jazz guitarist Romero Lubambo, the recording is a collection of Brazilian songs by notable Brazilian composer, such as Djavan, Milton Nascimento and Helmeto Pascoal and her original compositions.

Lubambo is featured on Sou (guitar and cavaquinho), along with pianist Julian Shore, flutist Anne Drummond, Bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer/percussionist Keita Ogawa.

Not only as a vocalist but as a songwriter, her song “Mizu no Utsuwa” won an honorable mention award at the 18th Annual USA Songwriting Competition 2013 and also her other songs were selected as a finalist of the annual 21st USA Songwriting Competitions 2016, 12th International Acoustic music awards 2015, 19th USA Songwriting Competitions 2014, 11th International Acoustic music awards 2014 and the Semi-Finalist of the 2013 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Jazz Category.

A Berklee School of Music alumni, Hiromi Suda developed a keen interest in Brazilian music while studying there. During the summer of 2007, she spent 3 months in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, honing her skills in Brazilian music styles and instruments. Her experience in Brazil was highly rewarding, not only musically, but it gave a historical and cultural context to her passion for the music. Suda attended a choro school, Escola Portatil de Musica, studying the pandeiro (hand frame drum) with pandeiro players Jorginho Silva and Celsinho Silva.

Hiromi Suda combines the classical qualities of intricate phrasing and attention to emphasis and timing, with a melodic and harmonic complexity that reminds of Bossa Nova.
